Meta
🥑 Avocado AI Plan Hits Rough Waters

The Bite:
Meta is scrambling.

New next-gen model, Avocado was supposed to be the successor to the Llama series.

Instead, its delayed and underperforming.

Meta is ditching its open-source ethos in favor of a proprietary system:
Aimed at competing with AI giant ones efforts.

Snacks:

  • New timeline: Avocado’s launch has slipped from late 2025 to early 2026.

  • Strategy U-turn: Meta is abandoning open-source Llama roots;
    Avocado will likely be closed-source.

  • Big bets, tighter control: After spending billions in AI veterans and infrastructure now it plans to lock down core tech.

  • Internal shake-up:open science” culture fades, now secrecy and speed are over transparency.

Why it bites:
It shows how high the stakes have gotten in the AI race:

If Avocado flops or arrives too late, Meta risks losing:

  • Ground to rivals;

  • Credibility with the developer community, which made Llama popular btw.

Dev reader:
Be mindful of who you support, it might bite you in the ass.

OpenAI
🧅 Garlic, Code Red, And The AI Vampire Wars

The Bite: OpenAI basically pulled the fire alarm on itself.

After Google and Anthropic started outscoring GPT-5.1 on reasoning and coding, Sam Altman declared “code red” and told everyone to fix core ChatGPT quality now.

GPT-5.2 was rumored for December 9 as the emergency patch…
It’s December 10, and still nothing.

Meanwhile, the real long-term bet is a new architecture called Garlic;
Smaller, cheaper, and aiming to keep big-model brains without big-model bills, likely landing sometime around 2026.

Snacks:

  • Code Red Is Real: Altman: ‘drop side quests and fix core ChatGPT fast.’

  • Patch: 5.2 is meant to stop benchmark bleeding, not reinvent ChatGPT.

  • Garlic: New Model: Big-model brains in a smaller, cheaper system.

  • Garlic = Anti-Vampire: Drop “Garlic” after rivals bite your lead and of course the vampire memes appear.

  • User Reality: GPT-5.1 is fine for daily stuff; heavy coding and deep work drift to Gemini and Claude.

  • Power Bill Pain: You get better tools; your electricity bill gets jump-scared.

Why it Bites: OpenAI acting scared is actually great for you:
It means the lazy era is over, and the next year will be nonstop upgrades as labs sprint to outdo each other.

Your only real job is to stay model-agnostic, use whatever works best this week, and pray your laptop…

And your power bill .

Good luck.
I hope you survive the garlic-powered arms race.
